Resort Couture Collection “BREEZE” by Claudia Pegus

Friday, October 24, 2008

Mode Îles, Ltd., Nassau, Bahamas, organizers of the Islands of the World Fashion Week, have announced that special focus will be given at their premiere event, to a unique regional product West Indian Sea Island Cotton (WISIC) fabric from Barbados.

The President of Mode Îles, Ltd. stated, "According to sources, WISIC is the world's highest quality cotton, which is grown in only a few islands of the region. For centuries this variety of cotton has been known for its silk-like texture, strength and natural luminescence.  Its fibers are longer than most other types of cotton making it ideal for high-end, premium quality garments."

In keeping with the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) endorsement of the event and their encouragement for the preservation of indigenous industries  there was no hesitation with granting Claudia Pegus’ request to showcase a resort couture collection of 100% pure West Indian Sea Island Cotton.  West Indian Sea Island Cotton is a product unique to the Caribbean islands.

This is a classic example of encouraging the value-added growth of the fashion industry from the raw product in the ground to the processing and creation of a high-end consumer product working in collaboration with the major producer of the cotton in the region, Exclusive Cottons of the Caribbean Inc.

Claudia Pegus, a Caribbean Master designer, is a native of Trinidad & Tobago. She has received many accolades for her work and initiative and will launch her new collection of resort wear, under the label "Breeze" Resort Couture; an all-white collection, includes heavily embellished, richly beaded caftans, sarongs, men's shirts, hats and bags.  For this collection she has collaborated with New York-based menswear designer, Francis Hendy; Jamaica-born milliner, Marcellas James; both of whom she has worked with on previous collections and Barbadian swimwear designer, Catherine Balgobin.

Ms. Pegus notes "I am thrilled to be working alongside these very talented designers on this project especially using an indigenous fabric that is in such great demand worldwide. This is a micro-step in my ambition to further develop and maximize the potential of the Caribbean fashion industry."
